The scheme was officially rolled out by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who announced that beneficiaries can now avail of cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals across Assam and major corporate hospitals nationwide.

From Reimbursement to Cashless Treatment

Earlier launched in 2023 as a reimbursement-only model, the AA-MMLSAY scheme has now transitioned to a cashless mode—a major reform aimed at easing the financial burden of healthcare costs.

> “Employees and pensioners can now receive treatment without worrying about arranging funds. To ensure a smooth transition, the reimbursement system will continue in parallel,” said Chief Minister Sarma.

So far, over 2.23 lakh employees and 6,172 pensioners have registered under the scheme, with the government already reimbursing ₹65 crore—a sharp rise from the previous annual average of ₹17–18 crore.

Self-Sustaining Model, Not Dependent on Centre

Unlike the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana, which is centrally funded, the Mukhya Mantri Lok Sevak Arogya Yojana is self-sustaining, financed through contributions from employees. According to Sarma, the scheme is expected to eventually cover 7–8 lakh beneficiaries across the state
