The three-day event will be held from September 17 to 19 under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.” It is being jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and global industry association SEMI.

SEMICON India 2026 to Bring Global Industry Together

The major semiconductor conference and exhibition is expected to bring together policymakers, global semiconductor companies, industry leaders, researchers, academics, start-ups and students.

Discussions will cover developments across the semiconductor and electronics value chain, with a focus on manufacturing, innovation, research, design, investment and workforce development.

The exhibition is expected to feature more than 500 exhibitors, including over 240 international companies, with delegations from more than 40 countries.

The event will also feature six country pavilions, 10 state government pavilions, a dedicated start-up pavilion, an innovation showcase, a start-up pitch competition, a student hackathon and a workforce development pavilion.

Semicon 2.0 to Strengthen India’s Chip Ambitions

The upcoming event comes as India expands its semiconductor strategy through the recently approved Semicon 2.0 programme.

The government has said the initiative will strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities while supporting the development of a more resilient domestic ecosystem.

Under the semiconductor programme, India is also supporting research, innovation and chip design by providing access to advanced design tools to more than 332 academic institutions and 105 start-ups.

Meanwhile, 24 start-ups have been approved under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme.

Three Semiconductor Projects Already in Commercial Production

According to MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan, the 2026 edition of SEMICON India comes at an important stage in the country’s semiconductor journey.

He noted that 12 projects have been approved under Semicon 1.0 to help establish India’s domestic semiconductor ecosystem, with three projects already commencing commercial production.

Krishnan said the announcement of Semicon 2.0, built around six major pillars, further demonstrates India’s commitment to creating a robust and resilient semiconductor ecosystem.

India Seeks Larger Role in Global Chip Industry

SEMI President and Chief Executive Officer Ajit Manocha said India is well positioned to expand its role in the global semiconductor industry, supported by its talent pool, policy environment and long-term vision.

Ashok Chandak, President of SEMI India and IESA, said the event reflects India’s efforts to build a comprehensive semiconductor value chain and has emerged as an important platform for collaboration among industry leaders, policymakers, investors and researchers.

With SEMICON India 2026 bringing together companies and stakeholders from across the global semiconductor ecosystem, the government aims to further accelerate investment, innovation and manufacturing capabilities in the country’s rapidly developing chip sector.
