A popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow has come under intense criticism after allegedly serving napkins featuring an inaccurate map of India that excluded the country’s northeastern states during a celebration for members of the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The issue quickly gained attention after Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain publicly objected to the depiction, calling it disrespectful to the region.

Lovlina Borgohain Raises Objection
The controversy began when Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry, a renowned Glasgow restaurant known for hosting visiting sports teams and dignitaries, welcomed members of the Indian contingent following their successful Commonwealth Games campaign. During the gathering, printed napkins carrying an outline map of India were reportedly used.
Lovlina Borgohain, who hails from Assam, noticed that the northeastern region was missing from the map and strongly criticised the depiction.
Speaking to IANS, the star boxer said, “The map on the napkins is missing our North East. Every part of India is important and should be represented.”
Her remarks quickly triggered reactions on social media, with many users supporting her stand and urging businesses to ensure geographical accuracy when depicting India’s map.
BFI President Demands Immediate Correction
Supporting Lovlina’s concerns, Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh pointed out that the inaccuracies extended beyond the Northeast, claiming that the depiction of Jammu & Kashmir was also incomplete.
He urged the restaurant management to immediately withdraw the faulty napkins and replace them with merchandise that accurately represents India’s territorial boundaries.
As of now, Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry has not issued an official statement regarding the controversy.

Restaurant’s Reputation Under Spotlight
For more than three decades, the family-run restaurant has been one of Glasgow’s most recognised Indian dining establishments. Managed by four generations of the Singh family, it is known for blending traditional Punjabi cuisine with Scottish influences and has frequently hosted international sports teams, dignitaries and visitors.
The controversy has overshadowed what was otherwise a celebratory occasion for India’s athletes following a historic performance at the Commonwealth Games.
India Creates History in Commonwealth Games Boxing
The incident comes at a time when India has recorded its best-ever performance in Commonwealth Games boxing.
The Indian boxing contingent won a record seven gold medals, with champions including Preeti (54kg), Taismine (57kg), Sakshi (51kg), Priya (60kg), Arundhati (70kg), Sachin Sivach (60kg) and Ankush Panghal (80kg).
Silver medals were claimed by Jadumani Singh (55kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) and Narender (90+kg), taking India’s boxing tally to 10 medals—its highest-ever medal haul in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
Overall, India has secured 44 medals, including 11 gold, 13 silver and 20 bronze, strengthening its position in the Glasgow 2026 medal standings.
