Boost to Minefield Breaching Capability

The TRAWL Assembly, developed by (DRDO), is a critical system designed to help tanks safely navigate through minefields.

According to the Defence Ministry, the equipment will enable the creation of vehicle-safe lanes in areas containing anti-tank mines, including those equipped with proximity magnetic fuses. This significantly enhances the operational effectiveness and survivability of armoured units during combat.

Strengthening Indigenous Defence Manufacturing

The procurement falls under the “Buy (Indian-IDDM)” category, highlighting India’s focus on indigenous design, development, and manufacturing. The initiative aligns with the government’s push for self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme.

Officials stated that the project will not only modernise defence infrastructure but also support domestic industries, particularly Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), through component manufacturing and supply chains.

Employment and Economic Impact

The contracts are expected to generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities. By involving local industries and suppliers, the project is likely to boost the defence manufacturing ecosystem in India.

These developments underline India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its defence preparedness while promoting domestic production capabilities.

A Step Towards Future-Ready Armed Forces

With increasing focus on modern warfare technologies, the induction of advanced systems like TRAWL assemblies reflects India’s commitment to equipping its armed forces with cutting-edge tools. The move is expected to enhance mobility, safety, and operational efficiency of tanks in challenging combat environments.
