Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92 in Mumbai after battling multiple health complications. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. According to doctors, the cause of death was multi-organ failure. Her last rites will be held at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4:00 PM.

A Nation Bids Farewell to a Musical Icon

The news of Asha Bhosle’s demise was confirmed by Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar outside the hospital. Her son, Anand Bhosle, stated that the public can pay their last respects at her residence in Lower Parel from 11 AM on Monday.

Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, had earlier shared that the singer was undergoing treatment and requested privacy for the family during the difficult time.

A Career Spanning Over Seven Decades

Asha Bhosle’s musical journey began in 1943 with the Marathi film Majha Bal. Over a career spanning more than 70 years, she became one of the most versatile and prolific singers in Indian cinema, recording nearly 12,000 songs in over 20 languages.

She delivered numerous evergreen hits including “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko”, “Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani”, “O Haseena Zulfonwale Jaane Jahan”, and “Yeh Ladka Hai Allah”. Her ability to adapt to various musical styles—from classical and ghazals to pop and cabaret—set her apart from her contemporaries.

Collaborations with Legendary Composers

Throughout her illustrious career, Asha Bhosle collaborated with some of the biggest names in Indian music, including R.D. Burman, O.P. Nayyar, Bappi Lahiri, Ilaiyaraaja, and A.R. Rahman. Her partnership with R.D. Burman, both professional and personal, produced some of Bollywood’s most iconic tracks.
