Hezbollah Enters Israel-Iran War:

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday stated that the involvement of Hezbollah in the ongoing confrontation between Iran and Israel reinforces concerns over what it described as Tehran’s expanding proxy network, calling it an “existential threat” to Israel’s security.

Hezbollah Enters Israel-Iran War: IDF Warns of ‘Existential Threat’

IDF International Spokesperson Lt. Ben Cohen said Hezbollah’s entry into the conflict demonstrated the depth of Iran’s influence over regional armed groups.

“Two days ago, the entry of the Hezbollah terrorist organisation proved that the Iranian proxy network is an existential threat to Israel,” Cohen said.

Israel Accuses Iran of Pressuring Hezbollah

According to the IDF spokesperson, senior Iranian officials who survived the initial phase of Israel’s military operation allegedly pressured Hezbollah to join the confrontation. Cohen claimed this reflects Hezbollah’s alignment with Iranian strategic interests rather than Lebanese national interests.
Israel, he said, cannot allow such a threat to exist along its northern border and has therefore begun targeting Hezbollah-linked infrastructure.

Two-Pronged Military Strategy

Cohen outlined Israel’s response as a two-part strategy combining targeted operations and civilian defense.

Targeted Airstrikes in Beirut

The Israeli military confirmed that overnight airstrikes targeted Hezbollah command centres in Beirut. Among the reported targets was a facility associated with Hezbollah’s aerial unit, allegedly responsible for drone strikes against Israel.
The IDF stated that these command centres were intended to facilitate operations against Israeli civilians and military personnel. Evacuation alerts were issued to Lebanese civilians prior to the strikes, according to the military.

Defensive Posture in Northern Israel

Referring to events of October 8 last year, when tens of thousands of Israeli residents near the Lebanon border were evacuated amid escalating tensions, Cohen said Israel is now maintaining a forward defensive posture in southern Lebanon.
He clarified that this does not constitute a ground invasion but is intended to safeguard civilians in northern Israel.

Hamas and Broader Regional Concerns

Cohen also addressed concerns regarding Hamas, stating that the group has continued hostile actions despite a ceasefire agreement in recent months.
He maintained that Israel has adhered to ceasefire terms and responded only to violations. The IDF, he added, remains prepared for potential escalation on multiple fronts, including the possible involvement of other Iran-backed groups.

Rising Regional Tensions

The developments signal a potentially broader regional escalation as Hezbollah’s entry into the conflict raises fears of a multi-front confrontation. Israel has repeatedly warned about the security implications of Iran’s support for allied armed groups across the Middle East.
As tensions intensify, the situation remains fluid, with military actions and diplomatic developments likely to shape the coming days.
