Border 2 Trailer Out:
The much-anticipated and first patriotic release of 2026, Border 2, has unveiled its trailer — and it wastes no time in announcing its intentions. The opening shot is deliberately dramatic: Sunny Deol staring straight down the barrel of a Pakistani tank, unflinching and fearless. It is a visual that instantly recalls the bombastic war cinema of the 1990s.

Border
Moments later, Sunny’s character launches into a speech to his men, his voice rising with every syllable in classic, trademark Sunny Deol fashion.
The trailer then introduces the new generation of heroes — Varun Dhawan as an army soldier, Diljit Dosanjh as a fighter pilot, and Ahan Shetty as a naval officer. Each represents a different wing of India’s armed forces, coming together to combat Pakistani forces across land, air and sea during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

A Straightforward War Drama
Narratively, Border 2 keeps things simple. It is a war drama that treats conflict primarily as a theatre for valour and sacrifice. There are emotional undercurrents — families anxiously waiting back home, soldiers weighing the consequences of their battlefield choices — but the film makes no attempt to deeply explore these layers.
Instead, Border 2 is unapologetic in its approach. It is designed to celebrate the armed forces, prioritising patriotic fervour over nuance.
Familiar Beats, Familiar Fatigue
However, the trailer also brings with it a sense of jaded familiarity. Sunny Deol’s rousing speeches are followed by predictable montages — heroic introductions, glimpses into family lives, and soldiers bonding through song and dance in army cantonments.
Much of this feels recycled. These beats have been seen before, often executed with more subtlety by refined filmmakers or carried by more layered performances. The trailer does little to suggest that Border 2 is breaking new ground in war cinema.

Nostalgia Is the Real Star
What the trailer makes abundantly clear is that innovation is not the selling point. It will not be award-winning performances or cutting-edge VFX drawing audiences to theatres. Instead, the film leans heavily into patriotism wrapped in nostalgia.
The strongest moments are those that directly echo the 1997 Border. Varun Dhawan kneeling in front of a tank, Diljit Dosanjh soaring through the skies in a Jackie Shroff-esque moment, and above all, the music.
The recreated tracks — Hindustan Meri Jaan and Ghar Kab Aaoge — preserve the soul of the original soundtrack while subtly updating it for a modern audience. The score becomes central to the trailer’s emotional pull, arguably more powerful than the actors themselves.
