Tripura Wins 2nd Rank:
Tripura has once again brought national recognition to the Northeast by securing second place at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025, reaffirming the state’s growing leadership in energy efficiency and sustainable power management. The honour was conferred on Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, observed across the country on December 14.

This achievement follows Tripura’s first-place ranking in the Group–4 category in 2024, making it a remarkable back-to-back national success and a significant milestone for a small northeastern state.

National Honour at Vigyan Bhawan
The prestigious award ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the award to Dr Subir Sen, Technical Director of TSECL, and Seema Das, AGM and Nodal Officer of the State Designated Agency under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
The National Energy Conservation Awards are instituted by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and are based on the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2025, a comprehensive assessment of energy efficiency initiatives across the country.
Tripura Ranks Among Top Performing States
Under the State Performance Award for Energy Efficiency, Tripura ranked second among 11 States and Union Territories in Group–5, which includes Chandigarh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Manipur, Lakshadweep, Nagaland and Mizoram.
The SEEI 2025 evaluated the performance of 36 States and Union Territories for 2024–25, covering seven critical sectors—buildings, industry, transport, agriculture, DISCOMs, municipal services and cross-sectoral initiatives—using 66 performance indicators.

Government Credits Teamwork and Consumer Participation
Reacting to the achievement, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath described the consecutive national recognition as a landmark moment for Tripura, attributing the success to the dedicated and systematic efforts of TSECL officials and employees. He also urged electricity consumers to adopt energy-efficient practices and reduce power wastage to sustain long-term gains.
TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu congratulated all officers, staff members and consumers, emphasizing that collective participation has played a crucial role in Tripura’s rising national profile in energy efficiency.

The latest recognition further strengthens Tripura’s position as a model state for energy efficiency in the Northeast, highlighting the impact of consistent policy implementation, institutional commitment and public cooperation. As India accelerates its transition toward sustainable energy, Tripura’s success story stands as a benchmark for other small and emerging states.
