The initiative comes as BHIM prepares to enter its 10th year of inauguration later this month, marking a significant milestone in India’s digital payments journey. As part of the campaign, first-time users will receive Rs 20 cashback on any transaction of Rs 20 or more, according to an official release.

A Push to Bring First-Time Users into Digital Payments

Developed by NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), the BHIM app aims to lower entry barriers for new users, particularly those still transitioning from cash-based transactions.

“The campaign is designed to strengthen digital payments adoption across diverse sections of society,” the platform said, highlighting its focus on everyday utility payments.

Users making transactions for groceries, Metro and bus tickets, prepaid recharges, electricity and gas bills, and fuel payments can earn up to Rs 300 cashback in a month on eligible transactions.

‘Garv Se Swadeshi’ Reflects Digital Self-Reliance

Speaking on the launch, Lalitha Nataraj, Managing Director and CEO of NBSL, said the campaign reflects the spirit of a digitally self-reliant India.

> “BHIM represents the confidence of a digital, self-reliant India and the way Indians choose to pay every day. The ‘Garv Se Swadeshi’ campaign is rooted in the idea that a homegrown, sovereign payments platform should be built around the real needs of Indian users,” she said.

She added that the primary goal is to help first-time users build lasting digital payment habits for their daily needs.

Refreshed BHIM App with User-Centric Features

The revamped BHIM app, launched earlier this year, supports over 15 Indian languages, offers an ad-free interface, and is optimised for low-connectivity regions, making it more accessible across rural and semi-urban India.

New features include Split Expenses, Family Mode, Spend Analytics, Action Needed, and UPI Circle, enhancing ease of use and financial tracking.

UPI Circle Enables Delegated Payments

A key addition, UPI Circle Full Delegation, launched in November, allows users to authorise trusted individuals such as family members, children, staff, or dependents to make UPI payments directly from their account within a fixed monthly limit.

This feature is expected to boost adoption among households and small businesses.

UPI’s Growing Global Dominance

According to a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, UPI now accounts for nearly 49 per cent of all global real-time digital payment transactions, surpassing systems in countries like Brazil, Thailand, China, and South Korea—underscoring India’s leadership in digital payments.
