Rohit Sharma Creates New ODI World Record:

Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma created history on Sunday, surpassing former Pakistan star Shahid Afridi’s world record for the most sixes in One-Day Internationals during the first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi.

Rohit achieved the milestone by smashing three sixes in his knock of 57 runs, taking his tally to 352 ODI sixes, one ahead of Afridi’s long-standing total of 351.

Remarkable Knock Leads India’s Strong Start

Batting first, Rohit played a commanding innings, forming a 136-run second-wicket partnership with Virat Kohli after the early dismissal of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The record-breaking moment came in the 15th over when Rohit struck Prenelan Subrayen for two consecutive sixes, reaching 350 and then equalling Afridi. Soon after, he smashed his 352nd six, moving to the top of the all-time list.

In total, his 51-ball 57 included five boundaries and three maximums, before he fell lbw to Marco Jansen in the 22nd over.

Elite List of ODI Six Hitters

Only three batters in cricket history have crossed the 300-six mark in ODIs:

Rohit Sharma – 352 sixes

Shahid Afridi – 351 sixes

Chris Gayle – 331 sixes


Rohit is also the only Indian cricketer to reach the milestone of 350 ODI sixes.

Third Consecutive ODI Half-Century

Rohit’s innings continued his consistent run of form. The 37-year-old has now scored three consecutive ODI half-centuries, having registered back-to-back fifty-plus knocks against Australia last month, converting one into a century.

His performance has strengthened his case for long-term inclusion as India begins planning for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup.
