A Decade of Affordable Medicines

Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda led the launch ceremony, celebrating a decade of the government’s mission to make quality medicines accessible and economical.
According to Nadda, the AMRIT Pharmacies network—first introduced in 2015—has now grown to over 255 outlets across 24 States and 4 Union Territories.

He highlighted that the expanding network has been instrumental in providing discounted medicines for critical treatments in oncology, cardiology, orthopaedics, endocrinology, and more.

New Locations Announced

The newly launched AMRIT centres will operate from major hospitals and institutes of national importance. These include:

PGI Neuroscience Centre, Chandigarh

GMCH Unit-II, Jammu

State Cancer Institute, Jammu

AIIMS Deoghar

Dental Hospital, Srinagar

SCTIMST, Trivandrum

Mumbai Port Trust

IIT Jodhpur

AIIMS Gorakhpur

AIIMS Kalyani Unit 3

These outlets will offer medicines, implants, and medical devices at prices often up to 50% lower than the standard Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

Significant Savings for Patients

Nadda said the AMRIT initiative has already transformed healthcare affordability in India.
More than 6,500 medicines and medical products are currently available through the network, benefitting over 6.85 crore patients.

“So far, medicines worth over ₹17,000 crore have been dispensed, resulting in cumulative patient savings of more than ₹8,500 crore,” he noted during the event.

Government Push for Expansion

The Health Minister urged HLL Lifecare Limited, which operates the AMRIT outlets, to double the number of stores to at least 500 in the coming years.

He emphasised that all medical colleges, district hospitals, and major healthcare institutions—both public and private—should host AMRIT pharmacies to ensure widespread availability of discounted medicines.

Accessible, affordable, and equitable healthcare must reach every corner of the country,” he said.

Digital Upgrade & New Initiatives

During the event, Nadda also launched the upgraded Ecogreen 2.0 digital platform, aimed at improving backend operations, logistics, and inventory management.

Additionally, a Customised My Stamp in collaboration with India Post was released to commemorate the milestone.
