PM Modi received a heartfelt farewell from Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck as he departed for New Delhi on Wednesday, marking the conclusion of his two-day official visit to the Himalayan kingdom. The visit, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has significantly strengthened the India-Bhutan partnership and expanded cooperation across multiple sectors including trade, technology, energy, and connectivity.

A Sacred Morning at the Kalachakra Ceremony

Earlier in the day, PM Modi joined King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the Fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, at the Kalachakra ‘Wheel of Time’ Empowerment at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu. The event was part of the Global Peace Prayer Festival, which drew over 30,000 devotees and visitors from across the world.

The sacred prayers were presided over by Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot of Bhutan.
Sharing his experience on social media, PM Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“Had the honour of inaugurating Kalachakra ‘Wheel of Time’ Empowerment with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. It was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, which made it even more special.”

He further described the ritual as an event of great cultural and spiritual significance for Buddhists worldwide, celebrating peace, compassion, and mindfulness.

Strengthening the India–Bhutan Bond

During his visit,Modi also held a meeting with His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan, where they discussed a wide range of bilateral matters. The Prime Minister conveyed India’s felicitations on the Fourth King’s 70th birth anniversary, extending prayers for his continued health and happiness.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in energy, digital connectivity, technology, trade, and regional integration. PM Modi particularly appreciated Bhutan’s progress in the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project, describing it as a forward-looking initiative that complements India’s Act East Policy and the shared vision of sustainable development in the region.

As the Indian Prime Minister departed, King Jigme Khesar personally bid farewell, symbolizing the warmth and depth of the India–Bhutan friendship, which continues to evolve through shared values and mutual respect.
