Later, he met members of the Indian diaspora in Latvia, acknowledging their contribution to strengthening bilateral ties. “The diaspora is a vital link between India and Latvia,” the Embassy noted.

India-Latvia Relations: A Growing Partnership
India recognized Latvia as a sovereign and independent nation in 1991, and formal diplomatic relations were established the following year. The countries celebrated 30 years of diplomatic ties in 2022.
Latvia opened its Embassy in New Delhi in 2014, and India reciprocated by opening its Embassy in Riga in 2024, marking a significant step in expanding diplomatic engagement.
Earlier this year, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze visited India to participate in the Raisina Dialogue 2025, where she held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on enhancing cooperation in trade, education, and regional stability.
The latest consultations reaffirm both nations’ commitment to broadening their partnership, with a focus on innovation, emerging technologies, and stronger business connectivity.
