Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh | October 29, 2025:
In a landmark event for Indian sports, Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the 69th National School Games 2025 (Under-17 Boys & Girls – Boxing) at the Khelo India Indoor Stadium in Itanagar today. This marks the first time in the 71-year history of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) that Arunachal Pradesh has hosted the prestigious national event.

A Historic First for Arunachal Pradesh
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Khandu called it a “moment of pride” for the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted how the state has emerged as a rising sports powerhouse in the Northeast, with young athletes excelling in national and international arenas.
“In the last decade, our athletes have excelled in sports like Taekwondo, Karate, Wushu, Boxing, and Weightlifting. This proves that our youth are among the best in the country,” said Khandu.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh, since becoming affiliated with SGFI in 2008–09, has shown remarkable progress in developing school-level sports talent and infrastructure.
Major Push in Sports Infrastructure

He noted that Arunachal has seen massive investments in infrastructure — including Khelo India Centres, multi-purpose indoor halls, national-level stadiums, and specialized sports academies catering to various disciplines.
He added that the state government is also providing financial incentives, job reservations, and technical support to promising sportspersons to nurture their talent and encourage sustained excellence.
“Our goal is to create opportunities so that every young athlete from Arunachal can dream big and achieve global recognition,” he said.
