According to IndiGo officials, Flight 6E-9203 departed from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport (Agartala) at approximately 12:40 p.m. but soon encountered a bird collision involving its left engine. The pilot immediately initiated precautionary procedures and requested permission to return to the airport.

The aircraft landed safely without incident, and all passengers and crew members were reported to be unharmed.

Swift Action by Pilot Averted Any Mishap

Sources at the airport said the pilot’s timely response prevented any potential in-flight emergency. “The aircraft experienced a bird strike shortly after takeoff, and as a safety measure, it returned to Agartala. All operations were handled as per standard procedure,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.

Airport officials confirmed that the aircraft has been grounded for a detailed inspection and maintenance check to assess the extent of the damage caused by the bird strike.

Aircraft Under Inspection; Operations Unaffected

IndiGo has initiated a comprehensive internal investigation to determine the severity of the incident and ensure the aircraft meets all safety standards before it resumes service.

Meanwhile, flight operations at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport remain unaffected, with other scheduled flights departing and arriving on time, said airport authorities.

Bird strikes, though not uncommon near airports surrounded by open fields or water bodies, can cause significant engine damage if the collision occurs at critical moments such as takeoff or landing. Aviation experts note that modern aircraft are designed to withstand bird impacts, but precautionary landings are standard protocol when any potential engine compromise is detected.
