Women’s World Cup 2025:

India continued their dominance over arch-rivals Pakistan with a clinical 88-run victory in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup on Sunday at the R. With rain threats looming before the high-voltage clash, weather concerns faded as India’s all-round performance ensured another memorable win in this iconic rivalry.

Kranti and Deepti Lead India’s Bowling Masterclass

Defending a modest 247-run total, India’s bowlers came out firing. Kranti Goud (3/20) and Deepti Sharma (3/45) spearheaded the attack, dismantling Pakistan’s chase and bundling them out for 159 in 43 overs.

Kranti, maintaining a stump-to-stump line, found early movement alongside Renuka Singh Thakur, whose disciplined new-ball spell kept Pakistan’s openers guessing. Their combined effort left Pakistan reeling within the first 15 overs, struggling to keep up with the required rate.

Sidra Ameen fought a lone battle for Pakistan, scoring a valiant 81 off 106 balls, but found little support from the other end as wickets kept tumbling. The result marked India’s 12th consecutive victory over Pakistan in Women’s ODIs — an unmatched record in the rivalry’s history.

India’s Batting Struggles, But Richa Ghosh’s Cameo Lifts Total

Earlier, India’s innings got off to a solid start but lost momentum midway. On a sluggish pitch, batters found it difficult to rotate the strike, with Pakistan’s bowlers — led by Diana Baig (4/69) and Fatima Sana Khan (2/38) — keeping things tight.

Harleen Deol (46) and Jemimah Rodrigues (32) were among those who got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. At 159/5 in the 35th over, India seemed in trouble before Richa Ghosh stepped up with a blistering 35 not out, including two sixes and three boundaries, pushing the total to 247 in 50 overs.

A bizarre moment saw play halted for 15 minutes due to pest control measures, stretching the Indian innings to over four hours. Despite interruptions, Richa’s aggressive finish, supported by Kranti Goud’s handy strokes, ensured India had a competitive total on board.

Pakistan’s Response Falters Under Pressure

Chasing 248, Pakistan’s top order crumbled under India’s relentless attack. Muneeba Ali’s bizarre run-out — lifting her bat after grounding it — and Aliya Riaz’s edge to slip reflected the pressure India created.

Natalia Pervaiz (33) showed some resistance, adding a 69-run stand with Sidra Amin, but Kranti Goud’s return spell broke the partnership, effectively sealing Pakistan’s fate. From there, the lower order folded quickly against Deepti and Sneh Rana’s disciplined spin.

Despite a few dropped catches and missed reviews, India’s bowlers remained composed, ensuring Pakistan never came close to the target.

Captain’s Pride and a Step Closer to Knockouts

Speaking after the match, India’s captain praised her bowlers for their “fearless execution and teamwork,” highlighting how the side has grown in handling pressure situations.

With two back-to-back wins, India now tops the Women’s World Cup 2025 points table, maintaining their unbeaten streak against Pakistan and solidifying their claim as one of the tournament favourites.
