Agartala, Sep 23 (Sky Link Times): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas, in Udaipur, Gomati district, Tripura on 22nd Sept,2025. The historic temple, built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, is among the most revered pilgrimage sites in eastern India.

After inaugurating the newly developed temple complex, the Prime Minister offered puja at Tripura Sundari Temple, as the temple is fondly called. The project has been completed under the PRASHAD scheme (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) of the Union Ministry of Tourism, with an investment of ₹52 crore, in addition to ₹7 crore from the Tripura government.
🔹 Highlights of Redevelopment
- Temple premises redesigned in a tortoise-shaped layout symbolizing stability.
- New pathways, renovated entrances, drainage system, and fencing.
- A modern three-storied complex with guest houses, meditation hall, office rooms, and stalls.
- Beautification of surroundings with gardens, improved lighting, and facilities for pilgrims.
🔹 PM Modi on Assam’s Spiritual Heritage
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi said the redeveloped temple is a symbol of India’s cultural and spiritual strength and will play a big role in boosting religious tourism in Tripura. He noted that such projects are not only about preserving heritage but also about empowering local communities through tourism-led development.

🔹 Boost to Tourism & Economy
According to officials, the project will:
- Attract more domestic and international tourists.
- Create new employment and business opportunities for locals.
- Enhance Tripura’s position as a religious tourism hub in eastern India.
In addition, the government is building a 51 Shakti Peethas Park at Banduar village, 4 km away from the temple, at a cost of ₹97.70 crore. The park will house replicas of all 51 Shakti Peeths across the subcontinent, with facilities like food courts, museums, and guest accommodations.
