The Indian men’s hockey team scripted history on Sunday by defeating reigning champions South Korea 4-1 in the final of the Asia Cup Hockey 2025, held in Rajgir. The victory not only gave India its fourth Asia Cup crown but also ensured direct qualification for the 2026 FIH World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.

PM Modi hailed the win as a “proud moment for Indian hockey and Indian sports.” Taking to X, he congratulated the team, saying:
> “This win is even more special because they have defeated the defending champions, South Korea! May our players continue to scale even greater heights and bring more glory to the nation!”
He also praised the Bihar government and the people of Rajgir for successfully hosting the tournament, calling the city a “vibrant sporting hub.”
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also extended warm congratulations to the team, lauding their consistency and determination.
Match Highlights: India’s Dominance From Start to Finish
India stamped its authority right from the opening minutes. Sukhjeet Singh gave the hosts an early lead before Dilpreet Singh added two more goals in the 28th and 45th minutes. Amit Rohidas struck in the 50th minute, stretching the lead to 4-0.
South Korea’s Son Dain managed a consolation goal in the final quarter, but it was too late to change the outcome.

With this emphatic win, India lifted the Asia Cup for the fourth time, after previous triumphs in 2003, 2007, and 2017 and now Asia Cup Hockey 2025. Despite the loss, South Korea remains the most successful team in the tournament’s history, with five titles.
