Governor Briefs Minister on Flood Impact
During his visit, Chauhan was briefed by Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, who presented a detailed report on the situation in the five worst-affected districts—Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Ferozepur. The Governor highlighted the extensive loss of life, property, crops, and infrastructure, along with the ongoing relief work being undertaken by the state government.
Extensive Damage Across Punjab’s Agricultural Belt
Punjab, known as the food bowl of India, has seen thousands of acres of farmland submerged, severely damaging standing crops of paddy, maize, and vegetables. Farmers are facing massive losses, with many agricultural fields rendered unfit for the upcoming sowing season.
Infrastructure has also taken a hit—roads, bridges, and homes in low-lying villages have been washed away, making relief operations more challenging. According to preliminary estimates, the financial loss to Punjab’s agriculture and infrastructure runs into several hundred crores.

The Union Minister is visiting villages in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Kapurthala to interact directly with flood-hit residents. He is reviewing their immediate needs, such as food, shelter, and medical care, while also assessing long-term rehabilitation measures. Later in the day, he will chair a review meeting with senior officials from both the state and central governments to finalize coordinated action plans.
