Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur (1908–1947), the last ruling king of Tripura, is remembered as the Modern Architect of Tripura for his visionary contributions to education, infrastructure, and social reforms.

During his reign, he pioneered modernization by introducing educational, economic, and administrative reforms that laid the foundation for Tripura’s future development. He also established Tripura’s first airport, which later became the Agartala Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport — a major gateway to Northeast India.

One of his most remarkable contributions was the reservation of land for the indigenous Tiprasa people, ensuring the preservation of their cultural identity and rights at a time when such measures were rare in India.
Maharaja Bir Bikram’s forward-looking policies and reforms continue to shape Tripura’s growth even decades after his reign, earning him the rightful title of “The Modern Architect of Tripura.”
