Torrential rains triggered by a massive cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashij district have left at least four people dead and several others missing, including nine soldiers from an Army base camp, as relentless flash floods and landslides wreak havoc across the state.
The cloudburst, which struck Dharali village in the early hours of Tuesday, unleashed a deluge that washed away homes, blocked roads, and left scores stranded. In response, the Kedarnath Yatra has been suspended until further notice amid growing safety concerns.

Rescue Ops Intensify as Army, NDRF, SDRF Lead Ground Response
Over 150 troops, including units from the Army’s 14 Rajput Rifles, have been deployed in the worst-affected areas. Colonel Harshvardhan , who is personally commanding the rescue mission, confirmed the use of drones, tracker dogs, earthmoving equipment, and helicopter support to evacuate survivors and deliver essential supplies.
According to Lt Col Manish Shrivastava, nine jawans are feared missing at the Army base camp, while two have been rescued so far under highly adverse weather and terrain conditions.
CM Dhami Rushes Back, Orders Emergency Response
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has cut short his official visit to Andhra Pradesh and returned to Dehradun. Chairing a high-level meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre, he confirmed that 130 stranded individuals had been safely moved to higher ground. Relief teams are providing food, shelter, and medical aid.
“Immediate priority is the safety and rehabilitation of affected people. We’ve requested additional Army helicopters to expedite the operations,” the Chief Minister stated.
Schools Shut, Travel Disrupted

All schools and colleges in multiple districts of Uttarakhand have been closed.
The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway remains shut due to heavy landslides in Mandi and Kullu.
Authorities have urged tourists and pilgrims to postpone travel plans to affected regions.
