Hundreds of families in Ramnagar Road No. 7 and the Abhoynagar Lal School area have entered their fifth consecutive day without drinking water, as outrage grows over the chaos caused by ongoing Smart City drainage projects in Agartala.

Residents in Ramnagar and Abhoynagar have been without drinking water for five days due to Smart City drainage work damaging underground cables and pipelines. Citizens call out poor planning and lack of coordination.

According to local residents, the crisis began after heavy machinery used for underground drainage construction accidentally damaged electricity cables and water pipelines, cutting off essential services with no viable alternatives provided.

“There is no integrated plan or blueprint. One department digs for drainage, and another finds their water or power lines cut—no one informs anyone,” said a senior advocate and resident of Ramnagar.

Similar incidents have been reported in IGM Hospital area, where the use of unscientific drozer machines led to the destruction of both electricity and water lines. Experts believe this could have been avoided with proper technical mapping and execution.

“That transformer benefited hundreds. Removing it over misinformation is unacceptable,” said a local.
