The Chinese-made F-7 BGI jet took off at 1:06 pm local time and crashed into the school campus just 25 minutes later. Over 100 others were injured, many with serious burn wounds, and are being treated across multiple hospitals.

The jet reportedly lost control shortly after takeoff during a routine training sortie before plunging into the educational campus. Emergency teams rushed to the scene immediately as chaos unfolded in the densely populated area.

Eyewitnesses said a loud explosion was heard, followed by plumes of smoke and fire engulfing parts of the school building. “We saw people screaming, trying to escape. It was like a war zone,” said a local resident.

Officials from the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) confirmed the crash, stating that an F-7 aircraft, commonly used for training missions, went down during an operational sortie. A technical inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the crash.

“We deeply mourn the loss of innocent lives and extend our condolences to the families affected,” said a BAF spokesperson.

The Bangladesh Army and eight fire engines from various parts of Dhaka rushed to the site. An Air Force helicopter was deployed to airlift the severely injured to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). Students are also being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Uttara Adhunik Hospital, and several other facilities, according to Dhaka Tribune. Rescue operations are being carried out by the Bangladesh Armed Forces, fire brigade, and local volunteers. Hospitals in Dhaka are on high alert as the number of critical injuries may rise.

Government officials, including the Prime Minister, have expressed shock and have promised full support for the victims and their families.

In light of the magnitude of the tragedy, the government is expected to announce a day of national mourning. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates are awaited.
