The Chief Minister, while addressing the crowd, reflected on the origin of the Kharchi Puja at the Fourteen Deities Temple, dating back to 1780 AD. Once Kharchi Puja was only a tribal religious practice, the festival now symbolizes unity beyond caste and creed, drawing 10 to 15 lakh visitors annually from across Tripura, other states, and even neighboring Bangladesh.

He highlighted the government’s efforts in promoting religious tourism and supporting local artisans through fairs like Kharchi Mela.

“The fair is not just a religious event, but also a platform for rural artisans to earn and showcase their work,” said CM Saha.

The festival also showcases the cultural spirit of Tripura, with exhibition stalls by multiple state departments. After the ceremonial ribbon cutting, the CM inaugurated the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department’s stall, where he was presented with local produce.

Officials such as DDA Ranjit Kumar Das, SA Rajshree Chakraborty, and Assistant Director Pinaki Sarkar were present. Stalls by other departments were also inaugurated, demonstrating various government development initiatives.

Concluding the event, the dignitaries visited the sacred temple and joined the ceremonial walk around the complex. The Kharchi Festival will continue for the next seven days, blending faith, tradition, and vibrant cultural expressions.
