Why Tremors Were Felt in Delhi-NCR
Experts point out that Delhi-NCR falls under Seismic Zone IV, a high-risk earthquake zone. Due to its proximity to the Himalayan seismic belt, even earthquakes originating from distant regions like Afghanistan can be felt strongly across North India.
The depth of the earthquake (150 km) also contributed to the wide spread of tremors, allowing seismic waves to travel across large distances.
Experts Urge Preparedness
Seismologists have long warned about the vulnerability of North India to earthquakes. Friday night’s incident serves as a reminder of the importance of earthquake-resistant infrastructure, public awareness and preparedness, and quick response protocols during emergencies.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and are expected to release further updates if necessary.
