According to the aviation regulator, 410 flights operated by domestic carriers were cancelled on February 28 due to airspace restrictions. Authorities have placed major Indian airports on operational alert to manage diversions and passenger movement efficiently.

Airports on Operational Alert

In a post on X, the DGCA stated that major airports across India remain on alert to manage potential diversions and ensure seamless passenger facilitation.
“Passenger assistance, airline coordination, and terminal crowd management are being closely monitored, with senior officials deployed on the ground,” the regulator said.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed all Indian airlines operating international services to continuously monitor airspace advisories, Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), and route restrictions issued by concerned authorities.

Passenger Assistance Measures Intensified

The Ministry’s Passenger Assistance Control Room (PACR) is actively monitoring grievances and ensuring timely redressal.
On February 28, AirSewa recorded 216 passenger grievances, out of which 105 were resolved the same day, according to officials. Authorities said all stakeholders are working in coordination to ensure orderly handling of affected travellers.
The DGCA confirmed it is maintaining close coordination with airlines to ensure full compliance with safety and operational regulations.

Airlines Directed to Follow Global Safety Protocols

Following airspace restrictions in the Middle East, airlines have been instructed to reroute or divert flights wherever required, strictly in accordance with global safety standards and contingency planning procedures.

“The safety of passengers and crew remains paramount. The Ministry of Civil Aviation is closely monitoring the situation to ensure safe, orderly, and efficient air operations. The situation is under constant watch,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with private airport operators, has been advised to maintain enhanced coordination with airlines for ground handling, parking bays, passenger amenities, crew logistics, and immigration support as necessary.

Impact of Regional Tensions on Aviation

The disruption follows escalating tensions in the Middle East after a major military operation involving the United States and Israel against Iran. As a result, several countries have imposed airspace restrictions, significantly affecting international and connecting flights.
With hundreds of cancellations already reported and more expected, passengers are advised to check flight status with their respective airlines before heading to airports.
Further updates are awaited as authorities continue to assess the evolving situation.
