Uday Bhanu Chib Arrested Over AI Summit Protest:
Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested Uday Bhanu Chib, National President of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), in connection with the controversial protest held during the final day of the India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam. The arrest has sparked sharp political reactions, intensifying tensions between the ruling and opposition parties.

Chib was taken into custody in the early hours after nearly 15 hours of questioning at the Tilak Marg police station. According to police sources, he allegedly did not cooperate during interrogation and attempted to mislead investigators. Officials claimed they possess sufficient evidence related to the incident. What Happened at the AI Impact Summit?
The protest occurred during the concluding session of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. According to police statements, IYC workers had registered online to attend the summit. They allegedly entered the venue wearing jackets or sweaters to conceal T-shirts displaying slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the India–US trade deal.
Later, the protesters removed their outerwear inside the venue, revealing the slogans in what the IYC described as a “peaceful” demonstration aimed at highlighting concerns over youth issues and national interests.
The incident quickly escalated into a political controversy, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemning the protest as a “shameful act” that tarnished India’s image on the global stage.

Congress Calls Arrest “Illegal”
Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel strongly criticised the arrest, terming it “illegal” and an attack on democratic values. In a post on X, Baghel stated that raising questions and protesting peacefully are fundamental rights in a democracy.
“This was a courageous, legitimate and democratic step,” Baghel said, demanding the immediate release of Chib and other detained Youth Congress members. He alleged that the government was using police action to suppress dissent.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera shared a video message defending the protest, stating that it reflected the anger of the youth and exposed what he described as “cracks in the system.”
Political Slugfest Intensifies
The incident has triggered a sharp political exchange between the BJP and Congress. While the BJP argues that such protests at an international summit undermine India’s credibility, the IYC maintains that the demonstration was non-violent and within democratic norms.
As the matter proceeds legally, the case is expected to remain a flashpoint in the ongoing political discourse surrounding freedom of expression and protest rights in India.
