The Tripura Government has announced plans to establish a Krishak Bandhu Kendra in every agricultural subdivision of the state in a phased manner, along with the construction of a 400 KV substation at Suryamaninagar to strengthen the internal power grid and meet future energy demands.

The announcement was made by Power, Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath while inaugurating the augmentation of the 132 KV Kailashahar Sub-station and the new 132 KV double-circuit transmission line from Dharmanagar to Kailashahar (Gaumagar). He also opened a new Krishak Bandhu Kendra at Chantail under the Chandipur RD Block.

Major Power Infrastructure Upgrades

Minister Nath highlighted that the upgraded Kailashahar Sub-station will now cater to the region’s needs for the next decade, benefiting 46,351 consumers. The Rs 59.82 crore project, funded by the Central Government and the World Bank, also aims to curb power outages.

“Power is essential not just for households but also for agriculture. However, in Kailashahar, only 36% of consumers pay their electricity bills, and issues like hooklines and power theft persist,” said Nath. He urged the public to combat electricity theft and announced solar power initiatives and the adoption of Emergency Restoration System (ERS) technology to prevent tower line failures.

Boost to Agricultural Modernisation

Linking the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of modern agricultural management, Nath said the government is committed to providing modern technology, training, and science-based farming support to farmers.

Since its launch in 2018, the Krishak Bandhu Kendra scheme has seen 33 centres inaugurated out of the state’s 47 agricultural subdivisions. By 2025-26, 43 centres will be operational, with 10 more nearing completion in Bamutia, Lefunga, Old Agartala, Mohanbhog, Tepania, B.C. Nagar, Poangbori, Ganganagar, Jubarajnagar, and Laljuri.
