In a shocking incident, a woman in Tripura was arrested on Thursday for allegedly acid Attack on her husband while they were on their way to her parental home. The incident took place in Sidhai, located in the West Tripura district.

The accused, identified as Sumitra Debbarma, aged around 29–30, was taken into custody from her parents’ house in Sidhai. Police acted swiftly after receiving a complaint filed by the victim’s mother
According to the complaint, Sumitra and her husband, Shibaji Debbarma (38), were riding a motorcycle together on Wednesday when the attack occurred. Without any warning, Sumitra allegedly threw acid on Shibaji, leaving him with burn injuries. Shocked and in severe pain, the victim screamed for help, following which locals in the area rushed to his aid.
He was immediately taken to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala. Doctors confirmed that Shibaji suffered burn injuries but his condition was reported as stable.

Speaking on the case, a police officer said, “A complaint was filed by the mother of the acid attack survivor, based on which we registered a case. We arrested the woman today from her parents’ home.”
The officer further stated that the initial investigation pointed to a domestic dispute as the motive behind the attack.
The incident has once again highlighted the serious issue of acid attacks in India, which are often linked to personal disputes, revenge, or domestic conflicts. While stricter laws have been introduced in recent years, such attacks continue to be reported across different states.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway and Sumitra will be produced before a local court. Police have also assured that they will take all necessary legal steps to ensure justice for the survivor.
