Founded in 1976, Tripura Gramin Bank has grown into a cornerstone of the state’s rural economy. Today, the bank operates 150 branches and 12 Ultra Small Branches (USBs) across Tripura, ensuring financial inclusion even in the most far-flung regions.

Finance Minister Praises TGB’s Role in Rural Development

Inaugurating the programme, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy lauded TGB for its consistent contribution to rural development and inclusive growth. He noted that the bank has shown steady progress and has performed commendably compared to other Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) across the country.
Aligning TGB’s work with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive growth, the Finance Minister said the bank has successfully delivered modern banking services to underserved populations. He also appreciated TGB’s role in ensuring the effective last-mile delivery of government welfare schemes.

Strong Lending and Support to Women SHGs

Highlighting the bank’s financial performance, Singha Roy pointed out that while Tripura’s overall Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio stands at around 50 percent, TGB has achieved a 41 percent CD ratio, higher than several other banks. This, he said, reflects TGB’s strong lending support to the local economy.
The Finance Minister also emphasised the government’s focus on women empowerment through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). He said the number of SHGs in Tripura has grown from about 4,150 in 2018 to over 56,000, involving more than 5.6 lakh women. TGB was praised for its significant role in financing and supporting SHGs, with a suggestion to expand ATM facilities to further improve customer service.
