The arrested individual has been identified as Rintu Debbarma, confirmed Khowai SP Ranaditya Das, who also stated that extensive operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused named in the FIR.
“We are conducting an extensive search operation to arrest all accused persons named in the FIR,” said SP Das.
The incident has triggered a political storm, especially since TIPRA Motha is an ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura. Chief Minister Manik Saha strongly condemned the violence and visited the injured BJP workers at GB Pant Hospital. Three individuals remain under treatment.
“Such disgraceful acts won’t be tolerated,” CM Saha wrote on social media, adding he had instructed police to take strict action against the perpetrators.

According to BJP tribal leader Bipin Debbarma, attackers were armed with machetes and country-made guns. Around 10-15 motorcycles and two cars were vandalized during the assault.

TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma released a video on Facebook appealing for peace:
“If tribals keep fighting each other in the name of flags, one day only flags will remain, not land… There is no point in fighting. Politely state your disagreements if any.”

While TIPRA’s lone minister Animesh Debbarma, who represents the Asharambari constituency, is reportedly investigating the issue internally, the BJP media in-charge Sunit Sarkar affirmed that the party leadership is also probing the root cause.

The event has thrown TIPRA Motha into a tight corner and renewed debates around tribal unity, regional politics, and the role of political violence in Tripura.
