Veteran actor Satish Shah, known for his memorable performances in classics like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, passed away on Saturday in Mumbai due to kidney failure. He was 74 years old.The news of his demise was confirmed by filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who took to Instagram to share the tragic update.

Sudden Health Decline and Hospitalization

Ashoke Pandit revealed that Shah suddenly fell ill at his Mumbai residence and was rushed to P. D. Hinduja Hospital, Shivaji Park, where he was declared dead.

> “He suddenly fell ill and was taken to Hinduja Hospital, where he passed away. It’s a huge loss for our industry,” Pandit said in an emotional video message.

In a statement, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre confirmed the cause of death:

> “Despite best efforts by our medical team, Mr. Satish Shah could not be revived. CPR was started en route to the hospital, but he was unresponsive.”

Bollywood Pays Tribute to a Legend

Condolences poured in from across the film fraternity. Celebrities including Kajol, Karan Johar, Anupam Kher, and R. Madhavan expressed their grief and remembered the actor for his unmatched comic timing and warm personality.

Actor Rajesh Kumar, Shah’s Sarabhai vs Sarabhai co-star, shared a heartfelt note:

> “I still cannot process that Satish ji is no more. It feels like I’ve lost my father. He was full of life and humour — a true pillar of our Sarabhai family.”

PM Modi’s Tribute: “A True Legend of Indian Entertainment”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mourned Shah’s passing on X (formerly Twitter).

> “Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satish Shah Ji. He will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment. His effortless humour and iconic performances brought laughter into countless lives. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.

A Career Spanning Four Decades

Born on June 25, 1951, Satish Shah was one of India’s most beloved character actors. From the satirical brilliance of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro to his unforgettable portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Shah brought joy to generations of viewers.

He also starred in popular films such as Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, leaving an indelible mark across genres.

His last appearance on screen was in the 2014 comedy ‘Humshakals’, directed by Sajid Khan.

Final Rites and Legacy

Satish Shah’s last rites will be performed at Pawan Hans Cremation Ground, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai, at 12 p.m. on October 26. He is survived by his wife, designer Madhu Shah.

The Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA), of which Shah had been a member since 1985, also expressed grief on his demise, writing:

> “CINTAA expresses its condolences on the demise of Satish Shah ji (member since 1985).”
