ATS and Police Launch Joint Search Operation
According to police sources, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), and UP Police have reached IIT Kanpur to conduct a detailed inquiry. Officials are reviewing attendance logs, hostel records, and CCTV footage to trace the movements of the two students.
One student reportedly went missing on October 18, and the second on November 10 — the same day a deadly blast near the Red Fort killed 13 people and injured over a dozen others. Both scholars, enrolled in the PhD program since 2019, have not contacted the institute or family since their disappearance.
Institute, Authorities Tight-Lipped
IIT Kanpur officials told reporters they have “no official information” regarding the students’ whereabouts, while police confirmed that a detailed list of around 150 Kashmiri students in the city has been compiled for verification. The state government and police headquarters have demanded a status report from all agencies involved.

Link to Red Fort Blast Under Scrutiny
The Red Fort blast investigation has expanded after the Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) detained an electrician, Tufail Ahmad, from Pulwama district in connection with the case. Earlier, a Kashmiri doctor, Umar Nabi, managed to evade arrest following the capture of several associates in Faridabad.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) also arrested Jasir Bilal Wani, an alleged aide of the prime suspect Dr. Umar Muhammad, for providing technical support to modify drones and develop crude rockets.
Ongoing Probe and National Security Angle
The disappearance of the IIT scholars has added a new layer of complexity to the Red Fort terror case. Security sources suggest a possible “academic-technical link” between the missing students and the ongoing terror investigations, though no official confirmation has been made.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while the probe continues.
