In a proud moment for Tripura, Ranjit Acharjee, a spirited National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteer from Gandatwisa Higher Secondary School in Dhalai district, has been selected as a special guest for the 2025 Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi.

Ranjit is the only representative from Tripura among the 50 NSS volunteers chosen from across India for this national honour. Each volunteer will be accompanied by a guardian — in Ranjit’s case, his mother will travel with him to the capital.

His selection marks another milestone in Tripura’s growing presence in national NSS initiatives. While four volunteers from the state had the honour of attending last year’s Independence Day event, two others participated in this year’s Republic Day celebrations.

The NSS unit of Gandatwisa Higher Secondary School, under the leadership of Programme Officer Bhaskar Ghosh, has long been a cornerstone of social service activities in the region. Ghosh, who was honoured as the Best State-Level NSS Programme Officer by the Chief Minister last year, has played a crucial role in shaping the unit’s success through continuous community outreach and awareness programmes.

Ranjit’s selection has sparked widespread celebration throughout the school and local community. A felicitation ceremony was held on Tuesday at the school in his honour. The event was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chandrajoy Reang, Vice Principal Khajendra Tripura, Programme Officer Bhaskar Ghosh, faculty members, and students. All extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for his upcoming journey to the national stage.

During the same event, local hockey coach Joyshree Sarkar was also felicitated for her years of voluntary service in training aspiring young athletes. Her commitment has helped several students participate in state and national-level tournaments, earning her immense respect as a role model in the local sports community.
