Surat Train Station Nears Completion
The Prime Minister arrived at Surat International Airport early in the day and proceeded by helicopter to Antroli, where the Surat Bullet Train Station is taking shape. Inspired by Surat’s iconic diamond industry, the station is designed with a distinctive architectural profile and impressive scale.
According to project officials, the station structure stands 26.3 metres tall and spans 58,352 sq. metres across three levels:
Ground Floor: Parking area and security screening
Concourse Level: Passenger lounges, restrooms, kiosks, and ticketing counters
Platform Level: High-speed boarding platforms for bullet train services
While structural works have been completed, interior finishing and final station amenities are currently underway. Track-related activities — including the RC track-bed construction and temporary track installation — have also been completed at the station site.
85% of Bullet Train Corridor Built on Elevated Viaducts
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project covers 508 km, of which 352 km fall in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and 156 km in Maharashtra. Once operational, the corridor will connect major cities including:
Ahmedabad
Vadodara
Bharuch
Surat
Vapi
Thane
Mumbai
The high-speed train is expected to cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to around two hours, revolutionising inter-city mobility.
The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) reported that over 85% of the corridor—about 465 km—is being built on elevated viaducts, with 326 km already completed. Significant progress has also been made on river bridges, with 17 of the planned 25 bridges already constructed.

Surat–Bilimora Stretch Among Most Advanced Sections
One of the most rapidly progressing segments of the corridor is the 47-km Surat–Bilimora section, where civil works and track-bed construction have been fully completed. This section is expected to be among the first to be operational for trial runs once rolling stock arrives.
A Push for Faster Execution of Mega Infrastructure
The Prime Minister’s on-site review underscores the Centre’s focus on expediting high-impact infrastructure projects. The MAHSR corridor is expected to:
Transform regional connectivity
Boost economic development
Reduce travel time drastically
Place India among nations with advanced high-speed rail systems
The project, executed in collaboration with Japanese partners, represents a pivotal step toward modernising India’s transportation landscape.
