In a bid to promote scientific and high-yield potato farming across Tripura, the State Horticulture and Horticultural Crops Research Centre organized a one-day workshop on ARC potato cultivation at the Sumili Agriculture Sector Office under Mandwi Agriculture Subdivision in Paschim Tripura district on Friday.
The workshop aimed to create awareness among local farmers about the benefits of the ARC Potato Cultivation, which is revolutionizing potato production in the state.

Officials and Experts Attend Workshop
The event was attended by social worker Upendra Debbarma, Joint Director and ARC Nodal Officer Arin Majumder, Superintendent of Agricultural, Mandwi Agri Sub-division Sekretish Debbarma, and several other agricultural officers from the Mandwi subdivision.
A large number of male and female farmers from nearby areas actively participated in the session, showing keen interest in adopting the new cultivation technique.
ARC Technology: Three Times More Yield
Speaking at the event, ARC Nodal Officer Orin Majumdar explained the difference between traditional potato farming and ARC-based cultivation.
He highlighted that the ARC system produces nearly three times higher yield compared to conventional methods. The disease-resistant seed varieties used in this method significantly reduce crop damage, ensuring stable income and higher profitability for farmers.
“The ARC method is transforming the way we grow potatoes in Tripura. Farmers are not only seeing increased productivity but also improved financial outcomes,” he said.

Growing Farmer Participation Across Tripura
The ARC potato cultivation initiative began in Tripura on an experimental basis with 105 farmers. Encouraged by its success, the program expanded to 400 farmers in the second year.
This year, nearly 6,000 farmers across the state are expected to participate in ARC-based cultivation — a remarkable leap demonstrating the technology’s growing acceptance.
Two new organizations, Micro Water Seed Management and the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency, have also joined hands in the initiative, providing technical and logistical support to expand its reach.
A Step Towards Sustainable Agriculture
Officials emphasized that the goal is to extend ARC technology to every corner of Tripura, ensuring that farmers can benefit from modern, sustainable, and profitable farming techniques.
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session where farmers sought expert advice on seed selection, irrigation, and fertilizer use specific to the ARC system.
