NRAI Coaches Course Ends in Jamshedpur:
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), in collaboration with the Jharkhand State Rifle Association, has successfully concluded its seven-day National Coaches Course in Jamshedpur, marking a significant step towards strengthening grassroots coaching in shooting sports.

The intensive program brought together 33 coaches from five states, including a strong contingent of 19 participants from Jharkhand, reflecting the region’s growing interest in shooting as a competitive sport.

Focus on Scientific and Holistic Coaching
The course was designed as a comprehensive training initiative combining technical expertise with sports science, modern coaching techniques, and practical application. The objective was to create a well-rounded coaching ecosystem aligned with international standards.
Technical sessions were led by Olympian shooter and Indian team coach Sanjeev Rajput, along with Vidya Jadav. They covered essential aspects such as weapon handling, shooting techniques, error correction, and competition preparedness, offering participants valuable insights from elite-level experience.
Integration of Sports Science and Psychology
A major highlight of the program was its strong emphasis on sports science. Sessions on sports psychology, led by Nanaki Chadha, focused on mental conditioning, including goal setting, anxiety management, confidence building, and maintaining athlete well-being.
Nutrition expert Charvi Bajaj conducted sessions on dietary strategies, hydration, and recovery, helping coaches understand how nutrition directly influences performance and consistency.
Strength and conditioning expert Vijendra Pal Singh guided participants on posture, stability, muscular endurance, and fatigue management. He also demonstrated practical warm-up and cool-down routines tailored specifically for shooting athletes.
Advanced Learning in Anatomy and Communication
The course also included in-depth sessions on human anatomy by PN Vineel Kumar, who explained biomechanics, muscle activation, posture, and joint stability in the context of shooting performance. These insights are expected to help coaches identify physical limitations affecting accuracy and improve athlete efficiency.
Additionally, Salil Srivastava led sessions on communication skills, emphasising the importance of building strong coach-athlete relationships. Topics such as active listening, constructive feedback, conflict resolution, and motivation strategies were covered to foster a positive training environment.

Evaluation and Next Phase
The program concluded with a formal examination to assess participants’ understanding. As part of the next phase, coaches will undertake a practical field project involving direct work with athletes and are required to submit a presentation within two months.
The second phase of the course will also be held in Jamshedpur, where participants will present their work and further advance through the NRAI’s structured coaching pathway. Successful completion of both phases will earn them official NRAI certification.
Strengthening India’s Shooting Future
Officials stated that such initiatives will be conducted regularly to enhance the quality of coaching across regions. According to JSRA President Diwakar Singh, continuous training programs are essential for nurturing talent and improving performance standards.
The initiative reflects NRAI’s long-term vision of building a scientifically trained coaching base that can elevate India’s performance in shooting sports at both national and international levels.
