The three-day Nirmahal Jal Utsav, one of Tripura’s most celebrated cultural festivals, concluded today with Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha emphasizing the need to promote the history, tradition, and cultural fusion of Nirmahal and Rudrasagar across India and abroad.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at Raj Ghat, Melagarh, Dr. Saha said that increasing tourist inflow to Nirmahal will not only showcase Tripura’s rich cultural heritage but also strengthen the local economy.
“Among the Jal Mahals of our country, Nirmahal stands out as a unique palace. Its beauty and natural surroundings attract tourists from far and wide. With greater promotion, more domestic and foreign tourists will arrive here, boosting the livelihoods of local people,” the Chief Minister said.
Nirmahal: A Jewel of Tripura’s Heritage
Built in the 1930s by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, Nirmahal Palace, situated in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake, is Tripura’s architectural crown jewel. The Chief Minister noted that the palace has already been included under the Swadesh Darshan program of the Government of India, which aims to develop theme-based tourism circuits across the country.
Women Empowerment & Rural Development
Linking tourism with social development, Dr. Saha said that the state government is focusing on rural upliftment and women’s empowerment. He highlighted the formation of 60,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Tripura, enabling women to achieve self-reliance and financial independence.
