In a strategic move to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath Yatra, the Indian Army has officially launched ‘Operation SHIVA 2025’, a high-level security initiative focused on safeguarding thousands of pilgrims making the journey to the sacred Amarnath cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.
The operation, unveiled just days before the peak yatra season, involves a multi-layered deployment of troops, advanced surveillance systems, drone monitoring, and quick reaction teams stationed along the route. Special forces units are also being placed in high-altitude zones, forested trails, and vulnerable points identified from previous threat assessments.
According to official sources, the army is coordinating closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, BSF, and intelligence agencies to maintain round-the-clock security during the pilgrimage, which spans from July to August.
“The Army told on Friday that medical support includes more than 150 doctors and medical personnel, two advance dressing stations, nine medical aid posts, a 100-bed hospital, and 26 oxygen booths, collectively stocked with 2,00,000 litres of oxygen are parts of their preparations.”

The Amarnath Yatra draws lakhs of pilgrims annually, trekking through challenging terrain to pay homage at the holy ice lingam. This year, additional logistical support like oxygen stations, medical tents, and improved signal connectivity has been introduced as part of the army’s extended outreach.
With heightened tensions in sensitive border areas and previous threats from terror groups, security agencies are on high alert, leaving no stone unturned to prevent any untoward incidents.
