IndiaAI Health Revolution:
India has significantly restructured its public health delivery system by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into a unified national strategy, according to an official government statement released on Friday. The move aims to bridge specialist shortages, improve early disease detection, and scale proactive healthcare across the country.

The transformation comes ahead of the Global South’s first international AI summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from February 16–20.

AI Driving India’s Public Health Transformation
The government has embedded AI-powered tools into key health programmes, including:
• National TB Elimination Programme
• National Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme
• Integrated Disease Surveillance System
According to the statement, these AI-enabled interventions have resulted in a 27 per cent decline in adverse tuberculosis outcomes and generated over 4,500 outbreak alerts, strengthening early disease detection and rapid response systems.
By enabling non-specialists to conduct high-level screenings using AI tools, the initiative addresses the persistent shortage of medical specialists, especially in rural and semi-urban regions.
e-Sanjeevani and AI-Powered Telemedicine
The government highlighted the role of e-Sanjeevani, India’s national telemedicine platform, which has facilitated over 282 million consultations with AI-assisted differential diagnosis support.
This large-scale digital health intervention has expanded access to remote healthcare services, particularly benefiting underserved populations.
Additionally, the UdyogYantra AI System is being used to monitor malnutrition, further strengthening preventive healthcare frameworks.
Expanding Across Health Ecosystems
The AI-driven healthcare ecosystem now spans:
• Infectious disease management
• Cancer care
• Modernisation of traditional Ayurvedic medicine
• The National One Health Programme
Officials stated that AI is improving medical device quality, enhancing clinical decision support, and making healthcare services more accessible and affordable.

₹10,371 Crore IndiaAI Mission
In March 2024, the Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi approved the national-level IndiaAI Mission with a total budget outlay of ₹10,371.92 crore.
A key pillar of the mission is the IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, designed to develop and scale impactful AI solutions that address major national challenges. AI-enabled healthcare delivery is among its priority outcomes.
The government emphasized that these initiatives are supporting innovation in AI-based healthcare applications and strengthening India’s socio-economic development.
From Infectious Diseases to One Health
The government stated that the AI-led transformation spans infectious disease management, cancer care, modernization of traditional Ayurvedic medicine, and the implementation of the National One Health Programme — a cross-sectoral initiative addressing human, animal, and environmental health.
AI is also being used to enhance medical device quality, improve drug monitoring systems, and make healthcare more accessible and affordable.
