India-Canada Ties Gain Fresh Momentum:
India and Canada took another significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties as Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand met India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Germany.
The meeting marks their fifth interaction since September 2025, underscoring steady progress in relations between the two nations amid growing global strategic shifts.

In an official statement, the Government of Canada said Minister Anand met Jaishankar on the margins of the conference, highlighting the “growing momentum” in the relationship.
The statement emphasized that the frequent high-level engagements build upon more than 75 years of diplomatic relations and strong people-to-people connections between the two countries.
Both ministers discussed expanding cooperation across critical sectors including:

They also reviewed the joint road map for Canada-India relations announced in October 2025, underscoring progress in its implementation. Both sides reiterated their commitment to expanding and diversifying bilateral trade to enhance economic resilience and long-term stability.
Canada’s Foreign Policy account on X stated that Minister Anand was pleased to meet Jaishankar at #MSC2026 to discuss advancing shared interests. Jaishankar echoed the positive sentiment, noting that India-Canada ties continue their “steady progress.”

Carney’s India Visit Expected to Cement Strategic Cooperation
The diplomatic engagement comes ahead of a potential visit to India by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the first week of March.
India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh Patnaik, has indicated that agreements covering uranium, energy cooperation, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence are likely to be signed during the visit.
If finalized, these agreements could significantly elevate the strategic and economic partnership between the two G20 nations, particularly in clean energy transition and high-tech collaboration.
