Election Heat Turns Violent: As campaigning intensifies for the April 12 Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, political tensions in Tripura have sharply escalated, culminating in a violent clash between supporters of the BJP and Tipra Motha in the tribal-dominated Lambu area under Kamalpur subdivision on Tuesday morning.

Face-Off Turns Violent in Lambu Market, Election Heat Turns Violent
According to sources from Kamalpur, the incident occurred around 10:00 AM when two rival political processions — one led by Tipra Motha supporters and the other by BJP workers — came face-to-face in the busy Lambu market area. Eyewitnesses reported that both groups were raising slogans and counter-slogans, which quickly intensified into a heated confrontation.
The situation soon spiraled out of control, resulting in a direct clash between the two sides. “What began as a verbal exchange turned into physical violence within minutes,” a local source said.
Over 20 Injured, Police Personnel Among Victims
The clash left more than 20 supporters from both parties injured, with several sustaining serious wounds. Notably, at least six police and TSR (Tripura State Rifles) personnel deployed at the scene were also injured while attempting to control the mob.
Officials indicated that the security personnel present at the market were initially outnumbered by the large gathering of rival supporters, which made early intervention difficult.

Security Forces Step In, Lathi-Charge Conducted
Upon receiving reports of the violence, additional forces comprising police, CRPF, and TSR jawans were rushed to the area. Authorities resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the clashing groups and restore order.
“All injured individuals have been shifted to Kamalpur BSM Hospital for treatment,” officials confirmed.
Situation Tense but Under Control
Sources from the Kamalpur police station stated that while the situation in Lambu remains tense, it is currently under control due to the heavy deployment of security forces in the region.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation, especially as the ADC election date draws near.
Rising Political Heat Ahead of ADC Polls
This incident is part of a growing trend of pre-election violence in Tripura, reflecting heightened competition between major political players. The April 12 ADC elections are seen as crucial, particularly in tribal-dominated regions where both BJP and Tipra Motha have significant stakes.
Political observers warn that such incidents could impact voter sentiment and raise concerns over election security in the coming days.
