e-NAM the Government of India’s National Policy Framework on Agriculture and Marketing (NPFAM) is driving significant reforms to empower farmers, enhance agricultural marketing systems, and ensure fair prices for produce.

Agricultural marketing is a state subject, and various states have set up Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) as per local needs to support farmers, including small and marginal growers.

e-NAM: Transforming Agricultural Trade

To help farmers sell their produce at fair prices without middlemen, the Government launched the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform in 2016. This digital platform has:

  • Expanded market access for rural farmers
  • Improved price discovery and transparency
  • Reduced transaction costs
  • Enabled online payments, promoting financial inclusion
  • Reduced dependence on local markets

As of 30th June 2025, 1,522 mandis across 23 States and 4 Union Territories have been integrated with e-NAM. Between June 2024 and June 2025, the platform recorded a 21% increase in trade volume and 22% growth in trade value.

MSP: Securing Farmers’ Income

The Government fixes the Minimum Support Price (MSP) annually for 22 mandated crops based on recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP), factoring in inputs from state governments and central ministries.

Since 2018-19, MSP has been set to ensure a minimum 50% return over the all-India weighted average cost of production for all Kharif, Rabi, and commercial crops.

From 2014-15 to June 2025, the Government has procured 315.19 lakh metric tonnes of agricultural produce, including oilseeds, pulses, and copra, worth ₹1,69,980.90 crore directly from farmers.

PM-AASHA: Strengthening Price Support

The Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) ensures remunerative prices for farmers, especially for pulses, oilseeds, and copra, through:

  • Price Support System (PSS) – direct procurement at MSP
  • Price Deficiency Payment System (PDPS) – compensating farmers when market prices fall below MSP
