Agartala, August 31:
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday sent a stern warning to lawbreakers, declaring that violence will not be tolerated in the state and those responsible will face strict action. His statement came during his participation in the 125th edition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme at East Takchaya in Asharambari, Khowai district — the same site where BJP workers were allegedly attacked on July 27 while listening to the Prime Minister’s monthly radio address.

During his speech, Dr. Saha described his presence at the same venue as a message of defiance to those behind the attack. “Nobody can intimidate the BJP with violence. I have given the police a free hand to act against miscreants. Those who break the law will be punished, and nobody will be spared,” he said.
July 27 Attack and Aftermath
On July 27, BJP functionaries gathered in Asharambari to listen to Mann Ki Baat were allegedly attacked by workers of the BJP’s ally, the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP), leaving nine activists injured. The incident created political ripples across the state, especially as TMP, headed by royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, is a partner in the BJP-led government with two ministers in the cabinet.
Calling the incident “a dark chapter that has defamed Tripura across the nation,” Dr. Saha said that by holding Sunday’s programme at the same site, the BJP had proven that it would not be cowed down by violence.
“Mann Ki Baat” is Above Politics
The Chief Minister emphasized that Mann Ki Baat is a non-political platform where the Prime Minister highlights inspiring stories of individuals, organizations, and developmental achievements across India. “Attacking BJP workers while they were listening to this programme shows the mindset of those who want to destabilize peace,” he remarked.
Dr. Saha also accused previous regimes of fostering a culture of political violence. “During the 35 years of Left rule and five years of Congress, violence thrived in Tripura. Our government is determined to end this violent culture once and for all,” he said.
Support for Tribal Development
Reiterating the BJP government’s commitment to the welfare of tribal communities, Dr. Saha highlighted that an additional ₹170 crore was allocated to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in FY 2024-25, while ₹860 crore has been sanctioned for FY 2025-26.
“The BJP government is working to improve the overall living standards of all communities, including our Janajati brothers and sisters. We are committed to their development, culture, and traditions,” he said.

Free Hand to Police, Rule of Law Emphasized
As Home Minister, Dr. Saha reaffirmed his directive to the police to act without political interference. He pointed out that arrests following the July 27 incident were proof that his government would act decisively against lawbreakers. “The police have been given a free hand to protect democratic rights and establish the rule of law,” he asserted.
Attack on PM Modi Condemned
In his address, Dr. Saha also criticized opposition leaders in Bihar for allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. “A chaiwala, a son of a poor family, became Prime Minister, and this has not been digested by the Congress, RJD, and their allies. The people of Bihar, and indeed the people of the entire country, will never tolerate such remarks,” he said.
Gathering of Leaders
Several senior BJP leaders joined the Chief Minister at the programme, including the party’s state general secretary and prominent tribal leader Bipin Debbarma, along with district-level leaders and karyakartas.
Dr. Saha concluded with a defiant message: “Violence has no place in a democratic society. Tripura will move forward with peace, progress, and development. No one can derail our journey.”
