In a move to capture India’s rapidly growing AI user base, ChatGPT maker OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Go, its cheapest subscription plan priced at just ₹399 ($4.57) per month. The India-exclusive plan aims to provide affordable access to AI tools in one of the world’s most price-sensitive yet fastest-growing digital markets.

With nearly one billion internet users, India is OpenAI’s second-largest market after the US. The new plan is designed to democratize AI usage for Indian users by offering:
1.10x more messages compared to the free version
2.10x more image generations
Faster response times:
- Access to advanced ChatGPT features at a fraction of global subscription costs.
- The company already offers ChatGPT Plus at ₹1,999/month and ChatGPT Pro at a premium price of ₹19,900/month. By contrast, ChatGPT Go is strategically positioned to tap into India’s mass market.

Earlier this year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met India’s IT Minister to discuss building a low-cost AI ecosystem in the country. Altman also remarked that India could soon overtake the US as OpenAI’s largest user base.
The launch underscores a growing trend where global tech companies offer India-specific, affordable pricing models to boost adoption in the world’s most populous nation.
