The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections just months away, the BJP Janajati Morcha leadership held a crucial meeting with BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh in New Delhi on Monday. The high-level discussions are being seen as a major step in shaping the saffron party’s tribal outreach and electoral strategy for 2026.

The BJP faces its toughest challenge from Tipra Motha, its junior ally in the state government and currently the dominant force in the ADC. In the last council elections held in 2021, the BJP emerged as the second-largest party and has since served as the opposition in the district council.
Inside the Meeting
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, senior BJP leader and former Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura said,
“BL Santosh Ji holds the position of BJP National General Secretary (Organisation). Naturally, we discussed organisational issues, the state’s political situation, and several matters related to party appointments.”
The delegation included Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, MLA Rampada Jamatia, MDC and Leader of the Opposition in TTAADC Bimal Chakma, and BJJM state president and ex-MLA Parimal Debbarma.
Reviving a Dormant Wing
Party insiders admitted that the BJP Janajati Morcha has been in a “state of dormancy” since the 2023 assembly polls, despite the BJP winning seven ST-reserved seats. In contrast, Tipra Motha has kept up a consistent grassroots presence, holding public outreach drives and openly criticising the government—even as part of the coalition.

The growing influence of Tipra Motha, coupled with the BJP tribal wing’s reduced activity, has sparked concerns within the party about retaining tribal support in the upcoming ADC polls.
A Crucial Strategy Session
Political observers believe Monday’s meeting could mark the beginning of an aggressive strategy to counter Tipra Motha’s dominance and re-energise the BJP’s tribal cadre. The party is expected to focus on organisational restructuring, community connect programmes, and strengthening its presence in rural and remote tribal belts.
With the TTAADC elections set for next year, the BJP appears determined to mount a strong comeback in Tripura’s tribal politics.
