BJP Criticises Pradyot Debbarman’s ‘One North East’ Campaign:
A fresh political confrontation erupted in Tripura after senior BJP leader and former MP Rebati Tripura accused Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman of using the newly launched ‘One North East’ campaign to revive his political influence. Speaking to the media, Rebati alleged that the initiative could mislead people at a time when the state is witnessing “relative peace and stability.”

Rebati argued that the campaign, supported by leaders from what he called “failed regional parties,” reflects an “existential crisis” in Pradyot’s political strategy. He also criticised speeches delivered during a recent Tipra Motha public gathering at Stable Ground, claiming they contained “provocative and contradictory statements” that risk reopening old divisions.

BJP Claims Pradyot Is Shifting Positions
The BJP leader accused Pradyot of repeatedly altering his political ideology.
“He once championed Tipraland and Greater Tipraland. Now those demands have disappeared from his dictionary,” Rebati said, calling the new initiative “another distraction to regain support.”
He further added:
“When he was with Congress, he said one thing; now he says another. After a decade, he will again say it was a mistake.”
According to Rebati, Pradyot has gained confidence to make aggressive political statements due to the existing political environment but warned that rekindling old fault lines would harm social stability.
Audit Demand on TTAADC Operations
Rebati Tripura also criticised the functioning of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which is currently under Tipra Motha administration. He alleged financial mismanagement, lack of transparency and deviation from constitutional norms.
“There is no financial discipline in the TTAADC. Everything is on paper in the name of development,” he stated, calling for a full financial audit of the council.

BJP Rejects Separate State Demands
On long-standing demands for a separate state or special constitutional provisions for tribal regions, Rebati reiterated the BJP’s firm opposition.
He said such proposals were “not practical or feasible” given Tripura’s size and demographic composition.
“Tripura is geographically small. These demands are unrealistic and will not help the state’s growth,” he asserted.
Political Context
The debate over tribal autonomy and identity politics remains central to Tripura’s political landscape. The launch of the One North East campaign has now intensified competition ahead of future electoral alignments, potentially reshaping regional dynamics.
