BIOFACH 2026:
India reinforced its global organic leadership by participating as the ‘Country of the Year’ at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products, held in Nuremberg. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) spearheaded India’s high-impact presence at the event, according to an official Commerce Ministry statement released on Wednesday.
The participation highlights India’s growing stature as a reliable global supplier of certified organic products and its expanding footprint in the international organic ecosystem.

India’s Expanding Organic Footprint
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal underlined India’s position as one of the world’s leading producers of organic products. He pointed to key amendments in the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), which have strengthened the credibility and regulatory framework governing India’s organic exports.
“Trade visitors are being provided insights into Indian organic products, value creation models and partnership opportunities,” the Commerce Ministry stated.
India’s pavilion at BIOFACH spans an impressive 1,074 square metres and hosts 67 co-exhibitors, including organic exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, certification bodies, testing laboratories, state government agencies, and commodity boards.
Wide Range of Organic Offerings
The India Pavilion showcases a diverse portfolio of organic products, including:
• Rice and millets
• Oilseeds and pulses
• Herbs and spices
• Cashew, ginger, turmeric
• Large cardamom and cinnamon
• Mango puree and essential oils
• Tea and coffee
Exhibitors from over 20 Indian states — including Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and others — are presenting region-specific organic produce and value-added products.
This broad representation reflects India’s agricultural diversity and its ability to meet global demand across multiple organic segments.

India-EU Trade Momentum
Agrawal also highlighted the complementarities between India and the European Union, citing their combined demographic and economic strength. Referring to the successful conclusion of negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), he said the deal would boost bilateral trade and investment, strengthen resilient supply chains, and promote sustainable growth.
He further called for the early finalisation of a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on organics between India and the EU, which would ease certification processes and significantly expand organic trade flows.
Strengthening Global Leadership
India’s ‘Country of the Year’ recognition at BIOFACH 2026 underscores its ambition to position itself not just as a supplier, but as a global leader in sustainable and organic agriculture.
With regulatory reforms, international trade agreements, and strong participation from states and producers, India is clearly signaling that its organic sector is ready for the next phase of global expansion.
