In a significant move to enhance infrastructure and public welfare in Assam, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, inaugurated the Brahmaputra Wing at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati. The inauguration ceremony also included the foundation laying and inauguration of eight major projects worth ₹322 crore through virtual mode. These projects span multiple sectors, including security, infrastructure, and digital transformation, and are aimed at boosting Assam’s growth trajectory.

The event of inauguration of Brahmaputra Wing was attended by several prominent figures, including Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, and other key dignitaries. During his address, Shri Amit Shah emphasized the Northeast’s strategic importance and outlined the development strides made in the region under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
The Brahmaputra Wing: A Step Toward Efficient Governance
Shri Amit Shah expressed pride in the newly inaugurated Brahmaputra Wing, which has been built at a cost of over ₹40 crore and spans more than 3300 square meters. This facility will house various constitutional activities and provide space for acknowledging contributions from students, artists, and researchers from diverse fields. The facility is designed to be a hub for constructive dialogue, where the Assam Government will be able to engage with public sentiments effectively.
The Home Minister highlighted that Brahmaputra Wing’s inauguration was a part of the state’s broader plan to build modern, world-class infrastructure to support governance and public services. The new wing will serve as a key space for collaborative efforts between the state and national governments.
A Historic Milestone in Assam’s Development Journey
Shri Amit Shah further remarked on the Northeast’s historical significance in India’s security and cultural landscape. From the era of Maharaja Prithu to the sacrifices made by Lachit Borphukan, the region has always been a pivotal part of India’s growth. The Minister stated that the Northeast, despite facing historical challenges and violent conflicts, is now experiencing a wave of peace, development, and economic growth.
Addressing the transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Shah emphasized that 11 years of Modi’s governance have brought unprecedented development to the region, particularly in security, infrastructure, and poverty alleviation. He praised the significant contributions made by PM Modi in ensuring better security, providing basic amenities to 60 crore citizens, and lifting 25 crore people out of poverty. The implementation of digital policies like Digital India and PMGDISHA (Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan) was also lauded.
Key Projects and Initiatives
The event also witnessed the inauguration of eight projects worth ₹322 crore, which include initiatives in cybersecurity, infrastructure development, and national security. Shri Shah detailed how the Modi government’s efforts in criminal justice reforms have led to the repeal of colonial-era laws, replacing them with modern laws that emphasize forensic science and investigative procedures for a more efficient criminal justice system.
One of the most significant announcements was the establishment of the second National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL) in Guwahati, after the success of the first lab in Delhi. This lab, a part of the I4C initiative, will be a major asset for the Northeastern states, helping to combat cybercrimes, protect citizens’ financial assets, and counter threats from narcotics and illegal smuggling across borders. The lab will also play a vital role in counter-terrorism efforts by addressing threats emanating from the dark web.
Development in Border Security and CAPF Welfare
In a major boost to the security apparatus of the region, the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy will house the new Cyber Forensic Lab, which will further assist police forces from all eight Northeastern states in strengthening border security and combating criminal activities. The Home Minister also inaugurated facilities for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) deployed across the state, highlighting the government’s commitment to the welfare of the personnel guarding India’s borders.
Opposition Criticism and National Unity
Shri Amit Shah didn’t shy away from addressing the political opposition during his speech. He condemned the recent negative politics and disrespectful remarks made against Prime Minister Modi by leaders of the main opposition party. Shri Shah expressed his outrage over the insult directed at the Prime Minister’s late mother, describing it as an act that crosses all boundaries of decency. He called for an apology from the opposition leaders, stating that such remarks not only tarnish public discourse but also show disrespect for an individual who has elevated India’s stature globally.

Shri Shah asserted that while PM Modi is being honoured globally, having received 27 of the highest civilian awards from countries around the world, the opposition’s tactics of abusive language and negativity cannot detract from the government’s achievements. He remarked that such conduct would not find support from the people of India, and called for a return to respectful political discourse.
Conclusion
The ongoing development of Assam and the larger Northeast region, bolstered by the Modi government’s vision for the region’s peaceful growth and inclusive development, has transformed the political, social, and economic landscape. As Shri Amit Shah concluded, “The people of Assam and the Northeast are not just watching but actively participating in the creation of a prosperous, secure, and culturally rich India.”
This historic inauguration at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati marked another milestone in Tripura’s, Assam’s, and the entire Northeast’s development journey. The focus on infrastructure, cybersecurity, welfare of security forces, and national unity continues to shape the region’s bright future.
