Rajnath Singh to Meet Japan Defence Minister:
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will hold a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Shinjiro Koizumi in New Delhi on Thursday to further strengthen defence and security cooperation between India and Japan and promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The meeting comes during Koizumi’s maiden visit to India and is expected to focus on maritime security, defence technology, equipment collaboration and new areas of strategic cooperation.

Japanese Defence Minister Arrives in Mumbai
Koizumi arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday and began his visit with a Guard of Honour at the Western Naval Command.
He also laid a wreath at the Gaurav Stambh at the Naval Dockyard and visited the indigenous Indian naval warship INS Chennai.
During his Mumbai visit, Koizumi held discussions with Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the Japanese delegation was briefed on the Indian Navy’s roles, responsibilities and operational capabilities.
Focus on Maritime Security and Defence Technology
The upcoming meeting between Rajnath Singh and Koizumi is expected to further strengthen bilateral defence relations, enhance strategic trust and identify new areas of cooperation.
The two ministers are likely to exchange views on deeper maritime security cooperation and closer collaboration in defence equipment and technology under the Make in India framework.
The discussions assume significance following Japan’s revision of its Three Principles on Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology, which could provide additional opportunities for defence-industrial cooperation between the two countries.
The Ministry of Defence said the meeting will provide an opportunity to develop a roadmap for advancing bilateral defence and security cooperation.

India and Japan Share Indo-Pacific Vision
India and Japan share a common vision of building a free, open, resilient and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
The two countries have been steadily expanding defence cooperation through military exercises, maritime engagement, defence dialogues and technology partnerships.
The Japanese Defence Minister’s two-day visit reflects the growing momentum in bilateral defence ties and the commitment of both countries to further expand their strategic partnership.
Visit Follows Modi-Takaichi Summit
Koizumi’s visit comes weeks after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi visited India in July for the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the summit, the two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in defence and security while expanding economic and technological partnerships.
India and Japan also signed agreements involving more than $10 billion, covering areas such as artificial intelligence, defence and clean energy. Japan has additionally set a target of investing 10 trillion yen in India over the next decade.
Against this backdrop, the Rajnath Singh-Koizumi meeting is expected to provide further momentum to India’s growing strategic partnership with Japan and strengthen cooperation aimed at maintaining peace and security across the Indo-Pacific.
